An 81 year old man, Mr Ali Balinga, is counting his loses after a power surge from a street transformer in Moferere, Ajilosun area, opposite Makinde Clinic, Ado Ekiti led to a fire Outbreak, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
Control TV News gathered that the unfortunate incident occured around 7:45pm on saturday after the building reportedly caught fire following a power surge from the streets transformer.

Efforts to put out the fire failed as youths in the area battled hard to quench the raging fire.
An eyewitness who spoke to ControlTV news under the condition of anonymity said;
“When they brought light, we heard a loud “Boom” from the transformer across the street, shortly we started seeing smoke from baba’s house, before we could say anything the house was on fire. we tried to call the fire service department while some men were trying to put off the fire. It took them about 45mins or an hour for them to get here, but the house was already destroyed.
Baba and his wife were lucky to have escaped unhurt.” she added.

Another eyewitness said;
“This transformer have been misbehaving for a long time, but nothing has been done, now it has led to the destruction of someone’s house. I was at home when they brought light, but it was too high, my bulbs got damaged and I quickly changed over. I ran out after hearing people shout on the street only to see baba house was on fire.
“It took the fire service department about an hour before they arrived the scene, the building was completely razed to the ground. Much to the disappointment of the residents in the area.
The youths chased the state fire department team away because they came too late“. he added.
Control TV correspondent visited the site the following morning. The streets were filled with sympathizers who came to see what was left of the house after the fire incident.
