Bishop Matthew Kukah’s message against President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has continued to generate reactions across the country. This time Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom on Wednesday, December 30, said that the cleric’s message was a true reflection of the current situation in Nigeria.

In a statement today by Terver Akase, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor in Makurdi, Governor Ortom described the federal government’s reaction to Kukah’s message as unfair and repressive.

The governor appealed to the government not to restrain patriotic Nigerians who are raising genuine concerns over the country’s worsening security situation. According to Ortom, the Sokoto bishop is a selfless Nigerian who only seeks to unite the nation and speaks his mind frankly on national issues. While calling on the federal government to take another look at the points Kukah raised, the Benue Governor suggested that the cleric should not be berated.

The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, recently issued a statement where he accused President Buhari of nepotism and incompetence.

Ortom in reaction to the statement urged Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari not to listen to those who might tell him that all is well with the nation.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has accused the federal government and the President of Muslims Rights Concern, Professor Ishaq Akintola, of twisting Bishop Kukah’s statement against the Buhari-led government. The Northern chapter of CAN has, however, defended Kukah, saying he never made any statement attacking Islam or calling for a coup.
