The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has vowed to continue it’s strike amidst threats by the federal government to invoke its ‘no work no pay rule’.
The doctors described FG’s “no work no pay” threats as empty and biggest joke of the century.
“we are not intimidated and will go on with the strike until our demands are met ”they said
The body of recident doctors days ago embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries and lack of (PPE) in hospitals, among other entitlements which prompted the government to issue “no work no pay” threats on 16th June, 2020.
This comes after in a meeting between officials of the NARD and the government ended in a deadlock on Tuesday,
The Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire had prompted all medical directors in all public hospitals across the country to open a register by 7 a.m. from Wednesday and record ‘‘those who come to work and those who fail to come to work’’.
In response to this The NARD president Aliyu Sokomba has called off the bluff of the federal government and described it’s threats as an empty joke.
He said:
“Instead of them to address our demands, they are resorting to cheap blackmail that they will implement no work no pay and sack doctors, is that not the joke of the century from a government that is not truthful? We are not moved,”
The NARD president Also described the Labour Minister claims of payment of frontline workers as ‘lies.
Labour Minister Chris Ngige Claimed that government has already begun meeting the doctors demand and that allowances are being paid to all categories of frontline health workers, reacting to this the NARD president lambasted the minister saying “it is a distortion of the truth.
