Benzema, fit again to captain the side, marked his 371st LaLiga appearance – a record among Madrid’s non-Spanish players – with an 88th-minute leveller to maintain the champions’ interest in the title race.
Madrid are currently third on the table, five points behind Atletico Madrid, but Barcelona’s victory over Osasuna on Saturday puts them three points behind the league leaders, who have one win in five in all competitions.
