Giannis Antetokounmpo confirms he will sign a five-year supermax contract to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks.
He took to his Twitter account to make the announcement which ended years of speculation about his future in advance of his possible free agency in 2021.
“This is my home, this is my city,” Antetokounmpo in his tweet. “I’m blessed to be able to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next 5 years. Let’s make these years count. The show goes on, let’s get it.”
Antetokounmpo, born in Greece to Nigerian parents, so far has averaged 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game last season to earn his second consecutive NBA MVP award.

A four-time all-star and four-time all-NBA selection, the 26-year-old, in 2020, became the 3rd player in league history to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same year, joining Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon.
His five-year contract extension will begin in 2021-22 keeping him in the NBA league till 2025-26 season with a pay of more than $228 million, marking the most lucrative agreement in league history.
The deal includes a player option that will allow the Nigerian-Greek to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025 when he is 30 years old.
He joins a number of NBA stars, including LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers, to sign long-term contract extensions in December.
