Alex Iwobi’s Late Strike Over Newcastle Keeps Everton’s Survival Hopes Alive

Alex Iwobi was the hero for relegation threatened Everton after scoring a dramatic 99th-minute winner as 10-man Everton edged Newcastle United 1-0 at Goodison Park on Thursday night.

The win saw Everton now in 17th place on 25 points go three points clear of the drop zone.

Nine minutes into injury time, Goodison Park roared when Iwobi netted the winner.

After driving at Newcastle’s backline, Iwobi found Dominic Calvert-Lewin whose neat flick crafted a shooting opportunity for Iwobi.

The Nigerian international shot back across Martin Dubravka who could not stop the left foot strike.

It is Iwobi’s second Premier League goal this season for the Toffees after netting his first in a 2-1 defeat at Wolves on 1st November, 2021.

Prior to Iwobi’s winner, Everton were reduced to 10 men when Allan was sent off for a lunge.

Referee Pawson initially brandished a yellow card, but after consulting the pitch-side monitor, upgraded it to red.

Allan’s sending off couple with a protestor who came on to the pitch in the course of the game saw a whopping 14 minutes of injury time added on.
