Ajimobi died of COVID-19 complications — Lagos State Commissioner

The Lagos government has made an official statement about the circumstances surrounding the death of Abiola Ajimobi.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi has disclosed the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajumobi, died of COVID-19 complications.

Akin Abayomi, Lagos state commissioner of health disclosed in a tweet on Friday, June 26, that the former governor died of multiple organ failure following complications from COVID-19 infection.

His post reads:

“We regret the death of immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajumobi who passed on 25, June 2020 at First Cardiologist Consultant; a private COVID-19 approved care facility in Lagos State.

“The former Governor died from multiple organs failure following  complications from COVID-19 infection. “On behalf of COVID-19 Lagos Incident Commander, jide Sanwo-Olu and the entire COVID-19 Lagos response team, we convey our heartfelt condolences to the family of the former Governor and the people of Oyo state. May his soul rest in peace”

Meanwhile President Buhari and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  condoled with the government and people of Oyo State over the passing of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

The president condoled the family of Ajimobi in a state house press release which was posted on twitter.

President @MBuhari condoles with the government and people of Oyo State over the passing of a former governor, Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, whose contributions to the development of the state, and nation, will always be remembered.

Tinubu, on his own part said in a press briefing: “With his departure, Nigeria has lost an outstanding statesman and one of its most able politicians.

Our party, the APC, has lost one of its leading lights; the Yoruba race and Oyo State have lost a favourite son; I have lost a dedicated friend, brother and ally.”
