The Federal Government has reversed its announcement on the resumption of schools and also the participation of student in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which was slated to begin August 5th.
This decision was reached after the Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting
The WASSCE examination was postponed indefinitely due to the spread of the coronavirus disease.
While speaking State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, said that Nigerian schools will not reopen any time soon until it is safe to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adamu stated that final year students preparing for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) will not be allowed to return to school opposing the earlier announcement.
Mr Adamu said that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) cannot determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria.
Speaking Further Mr Adamu stated that he would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to dangers.
