Kassim Afegbua A former Commissioner in Edo State, has said Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki is tearing the state apart at its core and might just end up destroying the state.
Afegbua In a short article he titled “Governor Obaseki, Wait A Minute” said the governor has done more bad than good as he has divided the state instead of uniting it.
He cited examples of how the governor has abandoned his people, and warned that he will not stop doing that.
Afegbua, a member of the PDP has previously said he will not support the candidacy of Obaseki in the Edo 2020 governorship election.
“In the history of Edo state, from old Bendel state, Edo people live with communal solidarity and cooperation. The Edo collective is one that promotes individual and collective enterprise because we are a people bound by common identity and cultural heritage.
“Since Governor Obaseki came, like a typical stranger to our sense of communalism, he has attempted to destroy our common identity and cultural affinity. His Commissioner for Culture, who was arrested in Holland is languishing in jail over there and Obaseki’s government does not care a hoot.
“He pulled down former Deputy Governor Pius Odubu from his NDDC. He pulled down Chief Victor Ekhator from his NDDC nomination. He has attempted to drag our respected philanthropist, Captain Hosa Okunbor in the mud through petitions with spurious allegations.
He worked against Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon as Senatorial Candidate in the 2019 election, to ensure that he doesn’t become Senator. At the fall of any Edo son and daughter, he celebrates.
“That is not the spirit of the Edo mind. That is not our common heritage. By the time he finishes his tenure, he will pick his briefcase, and disappear to Lagos. The central cultural fabric that binds us together as a people is being torn apart by Governor Obaseki.
“We must not allow this to continue. We must rise up in unison to save our state and restore hope, love and solidarity. We must return Edo to its old glory, where love, happiness, cooperation, solidarity, camaraderie and affinity reign,” he said.
