The Islamic Movement of Nigeria IMN has said three of its members have been killed and many others injured by the police Today during its annual Ashura procession on the streets of the nations capital Abuja.
The members during the procession waved flags with arabic inscriptions and chanting anti-government songs causing heavy traffic in the process.
Residence panic while traders closed shop amidst fears of criminals taking advantage of any break down of law and order.
The procession hurriedly dispersed on sighting armed policemen to avoid arrest.
The inspector general of police Mohammed Adamu issued a directive to commissioners of police in all states of the federation including the FCT to be conscious of the procession of the IMN nation wide and to not separate Non IMN members from the annual Ashura procession so they are not prevented from going on with their religious practice.
The police however warns that the gathering od the IMN is proscribed and any gathering is unlawful according to the laws of the country.
