
The North West Development Commission has received approval from the Kebbi state Governor to begin operations in the state.

Speaking to Newsmen after interactions with Governor Nasir Idris at the governments office in Brinin Kebbi on Friday, the Chairman of the commission Alhaji Lawal Isma’ila Yakawada says the commission’s readiness to start operations in Kebbi State is in no doubt the first step in bringing logistical support to the programs of the state government.

According to the NWDC Chairman, improving the livelihood of the people of the region is crucial; as it shall immediately prioritize agriculture and agro-allied industries in Kebbi, and across the region. He also recognized Kebbi state as Nigeria’s food basket. In his words:
Our role is to support and collaborate with state governments to uplift the standard of living in the region,
In response, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris welcomed the NWDC team and assured them of the state’s total support in achieving the commission’s goals. He highlighted the North West region’s vast potential, particularly in agriculture, and emphasized the state’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for the commission’s success. The governor also noted that all North West governors have agreed to give maximum support to the commission to fast-track growth and development in the region.

Governor Idris briefed the NWDC team on his administration’s achievements in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, workers’ welfare, and industrialization. He revealed plans to construct eight Skills Acquisition Centres to empower youth with vocational training, providing them with equipment and funding to establish their businesses. Additionally, the governor highlighted Kebbi’s success in restoring peace and enabling farmers to return to their ancestral lands and resume farming activities immediately.
Chaiman Yakawada believes that the Kebbi State Government has demonstrated its commitment to regional development by providing an office space and two new Toyota Hilux vehicles to support the NWDC in the state.
This move underscores the state’s dedication to achieving the objectives set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the commission.
