Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
This release was confirmed late on Friday by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) FCT Command spokesperson, Adamu Duza.
Bello, who has been embroiled in a high-profile corruption case involving an alleged N110 billion fraud, was granted bail on Thursday by Justice MaryAnne Anenih.
The court ordered that he be granted a N500 million bail after considering the circumstances surrounding his detention.
Duza, confirming the release, stated, “Yahaya Bello has been released after meeting the bail conditions. He was released this evening (Friday).”
He further revealed that the Controller of NCoS FCT, Ajibogun Olatubosun, was present to ensure that all protocols were followed during the release.
This decision comes after the court’s earlier rejection of Bello’s initial bail application on December 10.
Justice Anenih had ruled that the bail request was premature, as it was filed before he had surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Following the submission of the required documents, Bello was granted bail by the court and subsequently freed.
