House of Representatives has unanimously agreed to reduce their salaries by 50% for six months in solidarity with Nigerians facing economic hardship and hunger.
The decision was made in response to a motion moved by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu, which called for lawmakers to sacrifice a portion of their monthly salaries to support the government’s efforts to address the rising cost of food and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
The motion was adopted and referred to the Committees on Humanitarian Affairs, Finance, and Budget for review.
