A fire outbreak in the early hours of Friday occurred at a one-storey building situated at Atani Road by Uga Junction, Okpoko in Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State.
Gatekeepers News reports has reported that the cause of the inferno which resulted in some properties being destroyed is yet to be known.
According to an eyewitness, the fire began from a section at the top floor and started burning before the arrival of operatives of the state fire service.
On their arrival, the firefighters battled to control the fire and prevented it from escalating to other buildings around the premises.
The state Fire Service Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa confirmed the incident through a statement released.
He said firefighters were deployed to the scene of the incident immediately and they were able to contain the fire.
Chiketa said, “A distress call was received by the Anambra State Fire Service at 05:17 hours of today, Friday, June 7, 2024. The fire incident occurred on the top floor of a one-storey building inside GMO Company, situated at Atani road by Uga junction, Okpoko.”
“The Anambra State gallant firefighters were deployed immediately, with a fire truck to the scene of the fire, they fought and contained it. Though the top floor of the one-storey building was affected there were many savings, including other structures and properties inside the company’s premises. The Firemen were able to control the fire from escalating beyond the top floor.”
“The cause of the fire is not yet ascertained. While the firemen departed the scene of the fire at 11:57 hours of today.”
He further urged residents to always ensure they contact the Fire Service on time in any fire-related situation to reduce the extent of damage before the arrival of the Firefighters.
