Governor of Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria, Rotimi Akeredolu has died.
The Presidency confirmed Akeredolu’s passing in and an official statement.
Akeredolu, was Governor of Ondo from 2017, had announced his decision to embark on a medical leave on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, as a follow-up to his treatment and also handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Aiyedatiwa will be sworn-in as the Governor following the death of Akeredolu.
The deceased had previously embarked on three-month medical leave in Germany and returned to Nigeria to Nigeria on September 7.
After his return, he worked from Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, a working scenario that led to a political crisis in the State as Akeredolu’s loyalists clashed with his deputy.
