A Nigerian Army aircraft has bombed Tudun Biri village in Kaduna State during a Maulud celebration.
The incident which the Army claims is a mistake occurred around 9pm on Sunday resulting in casualties.
The Kaduna state government acknowledged the unintended attack, stating that it has received briefings from security forces on the attack which is said to have left an unknown number of citizens dead and many others injured.
Kaduna Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, in a meeting with security forces, religious leaders, and traditional heads, said the the Army explained the circumstances that led to the unintended attack.
Major General V.U Okoro, the General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army, explained that the Nigerian Army was on a routine mission against terrorists before its operations inadvertently caused collateral damage to the community.
