The Nigerian Army conducted the 26th Edition of its Social Media Seminar in Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State Capital on Wednesday 18 May 2023. The seminar with the theme ‘Social Media as An Effective Tool for Enhancing Civil-Military Relations’
A Presentation from Dr. Tubodenyefa Zibima of Niger Delta University on the Topic: Using Social Media Platforms to Enhance Civil Military Relations was described as apt at such a time of building trust between the military and civilians.
During the seminar, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs Maj Gen MG Kangye represented by the Director Psyops Brig Gen N Ashinze encouraged the social media influencers to always verify facts about information concerning the Nigerian Army before sharing on their handles to avoid being agents of fake news, disinformation and misinformation on security related matters.
He highlighted the damaging effects of fake news and disinformation on operations as well as the overall image of the army. Maj Gen Kangye therefore encouraged them to use their various social media handles with a sense of responsibility and patriotism towards enhancing Civil Military Relations for a secured Nigeria.
The seminar was wrapped up with a very robust and engaging interactive session during which participants asked questions, made contributions and also received clarification on issues agitating their minds concerning Civil-Military Relations.
In attendance was the Comd 16 Bde Brig Gen SY Yakasai, heads and representatives of other security agencies in Bayelsa State, several notable social media influencers/bloggers, radio/TV presenters and members of the public.
Highlights of the Seminar included accreditation of participants, paper presentations, interactive session and group photograph.
