Nine persons including two children were on Sunday comfirmed dead after a containerised truck fell on a commercial bus in Lagos.

The accident occurred at the Ojuelegba area of the state on Sunday afternoon.
It was gathered that the commercial bus was loading passengers under the bridge when the truck carrying a 20ft container suddenly fell on it.
Witnesses claimed that the bus was loaded to capacity, adding that an unspecified amount of passengers sustained varying injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary (PS) Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said those killed including four men, three women and two children.

He said a woman was rescued alive, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that the truck lost control and fell on the side of the bridge.
“After suspending the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment, a single adult woman was extricated alive and taken to the trauma centre.
“Final casualty count is nine fatalities comprising four adult males, three adult females, a boy child and a girl child.”
“The agency’s heavy duty Goliath and teams from Onipanu and Cappa are on ground. The agency’s Ambulance, LASG FIRE, FED FIRE, LASTMA and Nigeria Police have been working on this situation which is now concluded.
“Further investigation to be carried out by the Nigeria Police on the removal of the barriers on the bridge aimed at preventing trucks from ascending,” he said.
