Kwara Residents Panic As State Records 1st COVID-19 Death

The Kwara State Government says its concerned about the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the state as it records its first fatality from COVID-19.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor who is also Spokesman of the technical committee on COVID-19 Rafiu Ajakaye said the state has recorded its first death from the virus as the number of cases in the state has increased to 31.

While speaking to Control TV in Ilorin the state capital, Ajakaye explained that the deceased arrived Kwara with his wife and child after battling with stroke in Lagos.

“Upon his arrival, the government had treated him, his wife and the child as suspected cases and samples were taken. The result of the samples came back positive and unfortunately he died on the 9th of May and was buried accordingly even before his death was disclosed to his family members”.

According to him, due to the exponential increase in the number of cases in Kwara and Nigeria as a whole, there has been growing panic from residents with the easing of the lockdown by the government.

He said “Despite the preventive measures taken to curb the spread of this invisible enemy, the virus seems to get worsen and thereby creating phobia on the hearts of our people”.

Residents of the state have been advised to believe in the existance of the virus and its attendant realities as a highly contagious virus that requires a strict compliance to all the safety guidelines of social distancing, regular washing of hands, frequent use of hand sanitizer and the use of face mask when going out.
