Ukraine’s foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba says his country is suffering “horrific rocket strikes” not seen since the Second World War as Russian artillery pounded Kyiv.
As multiple explosions rattled Ukraine’s capital in the early hours of Friday morning, Dmytro Kuleba tweeted: “Last time our capital experienced anything like this was in 1941 when it was attacked by Nazi Germany. Ukraine defeated that evil and will defeat this one.”
It echoed the defiance of Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who said he is refusing to leave Kyiv despite Russian “sabotage” groups entering the capital.
