President of the Senate Ahmed Lawal has expressed concern over the absence of the Minister of Health, the Minister Of State For Health and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health for their absence at the National Covid-19 summit in Abuja.
According to Senator Lawal, their action is discouraging in the light of the responsibility they shoulder in response to the Omnicron Variant of the virus which has generated a new wave of concern across the world.
In particular the president of the senate said special COVID-19 funds are accommodated in the 2022 budget by the National Assembly and are channeled to the Ministry of Health for the care of Nigerians and as such the absence of the three top Health officers in the country speaks low of the seriousness they have placed in fighting the pandemic and also placed before the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Lead by the SGF Boss Mustapha.
While giving his good will message and declaring open the summit, Lawal said all provisions to tackle the pandemic have further been provided in the 2022 appropriations bill which will be passed not later than 16th of December 2021.
He also used the opportunity to assure Nigerians that their health and welfare is of great importance to the administration of President Muhammad’s Buhari.
