The Canadian Government has announced a ban on travellers who have visited African nations including Nigeria, Malawi and Egypt, amid worries over the spread of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.
This was disclosed by Toronto Star on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

Canada has identified five people with the new variant, at least two of whom were recently in Nigeria, citing last week’s orders by Ottawa barring travellers who had been to seven other southern African nations.
Recall that Control TV News reported earlier that two people returning from Nigeria have contacted the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus, according to the Canadian government.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also stated that it is studying travellers from countries with confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.

Director-General, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, said “The NCDC will continue to work with the Federal Ministry of Health Ports of Entry team to ensure that inbound and outbound travellers are tested and compliant with protocol.
“Towards the Christmas period, please do avoid all non-essential travel and take the precautions, which will, indeed, save even just one life.
“Your life is important and so are our loved ones and strangers.”
