Joromi star singer and musician, song writer, university lecturer Professor Sir Victor Uwaifo has died at the age of 80.
Prince Victor Uwaifo died at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin the EDO state capital where he hails from.
Sir Victor Uwaifo is the winner of the first gold disc in Africa with his popular song Joromi, and was best know for the song which has been adopted in several art performances and Nigerian commercials.
Sir Victor was the first African recepient of the Gold Disc Award. Another gold disc followed this in Guitar boy, Arabade, Ekassa series and Akwete music. He recorded under the stage name Victor Uwaifo and His Titibitis.
Best know for his highlife genre of music, Sir Victor Uwaifo soon became a household name in highlife music all across Africa. Uwaifo ‘Joromi’ has been active in the music scene since the 1960s and will be dearly missed
