The Federal High Court in Abuja declared that the former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun was qualified to be a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In 2018, Adeosun resigned as the Minister of Finance due to the allegation on the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) certificate forgery.

The Court on Wednesday held that Adeosun did not need the NYSC discharge certificate to take up any ministerial appointment or before standing for any elective office in Nigeria.
According to the court, Adeosun graduated from a London University in 1989 at age 22 and was not qualified to have participated in the scheme because she was then a British citizen.
Justice Taiwo Oladipupo Taiwo, who delivered the judgement in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/303/21, held that Adeosun from available facts was a United Kingdom citizen having been born in the UK in 1967 and remained there till 2003 when she returned to Nigeria.

Justice Taiwo held that Adeosun formally introduced herself as a Nigerian at the age of 36, noting that she was not eligible to present herself for the NYSC service at that age.
The judge proceeded to grant the four reliefs sought by the plaintiff, to include “a declaration that the plaintiff, being a United Kingdom citizen as at 1989 when she graduated from the University of East London, London, the United Kingdom at the age of 22 years, was ineligible to participate in the National Youth Service Corps scheme, established by the National Youth Service Corps Act, CAP N8, LFN, 2004.”
