Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has blamed the Nigerian Army for leaving locals in Auno town at the mercy of insurgents.
Zulum, who went to the scene of the shelling by Boko Haram terrorists in Auno alongside Sunday Igbinomwanhia, Garrison Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole said the military hasn’t done enough to protect the people of the town.
Daredevil Boko Haram terrorists reportedly killed more than 30 people a figure disputed by the army. Several vehicles were burned in the town on Sunday, in yet another sad occurrence.
“We have to be brutal in telling the truth. I am pushed to the wall to say the truth. Since I was inaugurated as governor of Borno state, Boko Haram has attacked Auno six times. Another thing is that the military has withdrawn from Auno town,” an angry Zulum said.
He said the military should have secured a base in Auno but went against his advice.
Zulum also accused them of leaving the town at exactly 5 p.m everyday.
“I am not undermining the capacity of the military but we have made repeated appeal for the military to establish their unit in Auno. They are here but as soon as it is 5 pm, they close the gate and lock the people and go back to Maiduguri. This is not right.”
Igbinomwanhia, in his response said the military is committed to the protection of lives and property in the state.
He said the troops were conducting clearance operation at other locations when the attack happened.
Igbinomwanhia said the military would never have deliberately allowed the people to be killed by insurgents as he advised residents of the community to provide credible information to the troops in order to secure them.
