President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, chairman of the University of Ibadan (UI) governing council.
Oyegun who was the chairman of the APC when Buhari was elected in 2015 was appointed alongside Dr. Masud Kazaure, Abba Yaro, Abubakar Maikafi and Emeka Nwagbo as members of the governing council.

The President made this approval known in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary (PS) of the federal ministry of education, Sonny Echono, on Thursday.
According to the statement, President Buhari has similarly dissolved and reconstituted the governing councils of four other universities which are: University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and Nigerian Maritime University.

Echono said the President has appointed Andrew Uchendu chairman of UNIPORT governing council alongside Kolo Uzamat, Cdre. D.T. Hinga, Mohammed Makarfi, and Ahmed Al-Mustapha as members.
Unilag now has Dr Lanre Tejuosho as chairman, while Dr Aminu Ahmed, Dr. Uro Gardner, Chinedu Adindi, and Mustafa Salihu have been appointed members of the governing council.
In OAU, Oscar Udoji was appointed Chairman, alongside Capt. Bala Jibrin, Eugene Odo, Dr Lateef Babata, and Saidu Bako as members.
The Nigerian Maritime University was not left out in the reconstitution as Dr Elias Courson becomes the Chairman and Nelson Alapa, Victor Giadono, Bello Dukku, and Godwin Ananghe were appointed as members.
Echono said all the five universities’ governing councils would be inaugurated in Abuja on April 19 by the minister of education, Adamu Adamu.
