Governor of Benue state, Middle Belt, Nigeria, Samuel Ortom, has denied claims that the Saturday’s attack on his convoy was stage-managed.
Governor Ortom during his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday said he has nothing to gain from faking his own attack.

Ortom was attacked by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Saturday while on a visit to his farm.
The incident had drawn widespread condemnation from politicians across the political divide.
The Governor who commended other governors, colleagues for standing by him during the attack, urged everyone not to politicize the attempted assassination on his person.
Ortom appreciated the president for speaking against the attack and ordering security agencies to carry out a “thorough and transparent investigation.”

While stating that the country is currently sitting on a keg of gun powder, Ortom said that there will be no 2023 elections in Nigeria if the insecurity issues persist.
The Governor therefore called for the protection of the constitution to enable equity, fairness, and justice in the country.
Ortom enjoined the Federal Government to immediately prosecute anyone found culpable of breaching the law.
