The governor discovered this when he paid a midnight visit to the camp on Tuesday, where he carried out a headcount.

The camp holds IDPs from Bama, Konduga and Damboa LGAs of the state.
Zulum sealed the entrance immediately after his arrival and presided over the counting of the IDPs.
The count revealed that out of the 1316 households in the records of humanitarian officials, 528 were found to be fake.

Only 788 households were discovered to hold real IDPs.
The governor said the headcount is an attempt to curb the practice of residents benefitting from resources meant for IDPs.
Borno state officials who participated in the headcount said Zulum is not against vulnerable citizens getting support, but that he is against “fraudulent people” ripping off IDPs.
