The Governor of Zamfara state Bello Matawalle has given a vote of confidence in the steps taken to quell violence by the Commissioner of police in the state.
In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media Mr. Zailani Bappa and made available to Control TV, Governor Matawalle says the people of Zamfara strongly support the efforts to improve security, and also to retain the Police Commissioner in the state for his professional conduct, and to sustain the gains of improved security.
The Governor was speaking today at the Government House in Gusau the state capital, while addressing stakeholders in the peace accord that brought peace to the state.
He said, “My Government and, indeed, the People of Zamfara State are solidly behind the efforts, commitment and achievements of the CP Usman Nagogo in the last few months”.
“under his watch, we saw a very fast reduction in banditry in the state to its near total absence today. It was under his watch that unconditional release of over 400 abductees was secured as well as surrender of over 200 sophisticated weapons”.
He noted that the Commissioner is currently in a fight against cattle rustling with tremendous success and is now a known arbiter between Stakeholders in the search for everlasting peace in Zamfara.
The Governor however raised concerns of plans by some aggrieved politicians to redeploy CP Nagogo.
He said “We are now in the picture of a grand attempt by enemies of Zamfara State who have failed our people in their last eight years to force his removal from our dear state at a time when he has found an avenue of bringing lasting peace to our people. We will not succumb to this”, the Governor warned.
