The Federal Government says it will roll out Rapid Diagnostic COVID-19 Test-Kits (RDTs) in five tertiary health institutions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Speaking at the press briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Monday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said the rollout would be done next week.
“Next week the pilot exercise on the use of Rapid Diagnostic Test-Kits (RDTs) will be rolled out in 5 tertiary health institutions in Abuja,” Mustapha said.
Also speaking, Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the move is to increase access to COVID-19 testing.

He said that the rollout would move to other states from February 2021.
“To further increase access to #COVID19 testing, we would roll out rapid diagnostic test kits in five health facilities in the FCT, & will scale to other states from February this year,” the NCDC boss said.
Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to take responsibility as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
“With over 100,000 lives now affected & over 1,300 deaths recorded within 11 months in Nigeria, we are reminded of the stark reality we live in,” he said.
“We advise Nigerians to remain aware of the risk of COVID-19 and take responsibility to limit spread.”
