President Muhammadu Buhari’s has rejected the tenure extension bid of the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA.
In a letter on Thursday Janaury 7,2021, and signed by SGF Boss Mustapha his sack take immediate effect, the embattled chairman was advised to hand over the leadership of the agency to the Secretary of the agency on or before January 10, 2021 and vacate office with immediate effect.
The Chairman of the agency Col. Mustapha Muhammad Abdallah has allegedly had a vote of no confidence by its staff spread across the country.
Agency reports say the 5 year tenure of Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah as NDLEA Chairman had been characterized by administrative incompetence, irreconcilable corruption, lopsided promotion, and insensitivity to the plight of personnel. This has prompted concerns by senior staff of the agency who have called for his replacement.
With the letter of termination of appointment signed and handed over to him by the Secretary to the Federal Government Boss Mustapha Members of staff who pleaded anonymity said his actions speaks of a desperate face saving maneuver as he has quickly commenced distribution of appointment letters to candidates who were supposed to have been recruited since 2019; most of who didn’t obtain application forms, asking them to report to Jos, the Plateau State capital next week Monday for training.
A statement signed by one Musa Ahmed Yusuf, a senior narcotic officer on behalf of concerned senior staff of the agency thanked President Buhari for sacking Abdallah. They have also called on the Federal Government to cancel the recruitment exercise; describing it as hoax and last minute face saving move to forestall probe into embezzlement of recruitment fund released since 2019.
According to the letter, most of the candidates that had been issued letters to report for training on Monday were relations of his cronies at the corridors of power; stressing that with this move, the quest to probe Abdallah’s gross administrative ineptitude and financial impropriety would be jettisoned. The letter reads in part:
“The Concerned officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have commended President Buhari for his swift intervention in sacking Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah rtd following his dismal performance in the last five years”.
