A tanker conveying petrol has exploded near Otedola Estate on the outbound service lane of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway causing heavy traffic at the Berger-Alausa-Magodo axis of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened a few minutes to 6pm on Saturday.
Motorists were said to have panicked on the expressway as many vehicles made U-turn in a bid to avoid being engulfed in the inferno.
Some passengers were also seen alighting from vehicles hurriedly to avoid the fire.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the accident also affected a truck conveying goods.
“The Agency has responded to the above and upon arrival of the Agency’s officials at the incident scene, it was observed that a tanker conveying an unknown amount of diesel fell spilling its contents which resulted to an explosion that affected a truck conveying goods,” the agency said on its Twitter handle.
“No injuries were recorded and the extent of property damaged is still being determined.”

No injuries were recorded and the extent of property damaged is still being determined.
The Otedola section of the Expressway has become somewhat synonymous with tanker explosions with similar incidents on a regular basis.
