Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, says those responsible for the abduction of students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, have made contact.
The school was invaded last Friday, this consequencially led to the abduction of students.
On Sunday, Masari said a total of 333 students were still unaccounted for.
In an update on Monday, Masari disclosed that discussions with the kidnappers had kick-started for the safe return of the students.
The presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, quoted the governor as briefing President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina, who was on a private visit.
“President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Daura, Katsina State, got more briefing on the children kidnapped from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, with an assurance from Governor Aminu Bello Masari of steady progress to bring them out unharmed,” the statement said.
“We are making progress and the outlook is positive,’’
Governor Aminu, who was accompanied by Manir Yakubu, the deputy governor of the state said the abductors had earlier made contact and discussions were already on as regards to the safe return of the adbucted students” Shehu said.
“Governor Masari also stated that the security agencies had located the position of the children.
The Governor said “the President was fully committed to the rescue of the school children, adding that it was only appropriate to visit the President and give him more details concerning the rescue efforts.”
