As Nationwide protests continues to rock Nigeria for eight consecutive days The Nigerian Youth keep deriving more innovative ways to agitate their predicament as the Muslims amongst them observed their Jummat prayers on the road.
The Jummat is a prayer that Muslims hold every Friday, Jumu’ah means Friday in the Arabic language.
This, however, Is coming at heels of a protest ban instigated by the Federal Capital Territory Security Committee in which they directed that all street demonstrations, protests, and processions will not be allowed anywhere within its environs of Abuja, But the youths in their numbers flouted.
This demonstrations began with a call to ban a notorious police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, which has been accused of torture, extortion and extrajudicial killings.
Earlier this year analysis documented that at least 82 cases of torture, ill treatment and extra-judicial execution were recorded between January 2017 and May this year.
The victims were mainly men aged between 18 and 35 from poor backgrounds and vulnerable groups. Many of those tortured were beaten with sticks and machetes and denied medical attention.
This prompted huge outrage from Netizens mostly on Twitter as the Hashtag #EndSars hit no 1 world wide.
Also, Some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including Davido and Falz, threw their weight behind the demonstrators, who have been galvanising support on Twitter under the #EndSARS hashtag.
