Manchester United suffered a club record-equalling defeat in the Premier League era as they crashed to a 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
A brilliant Spurs ruthlessly exposed United’s weakness at the back and made the most of the space given to them in midfield, re-opening the question of whether Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba can play together for United in a three-man set-up.
The Red Devils took the lead in the first minute of the game, but went on to concede six goals in a day to forget for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Son added his second shortly before the break as United conceded four goals in the first half of a league game for the first time since 1957 — also to Spurs.Serge Aurier made it 5-1 in the 51st minute before Kane completed the rout from the penalty spot.
United also lost 6-1 to Manchester City in October, 2011.Speaking to Sky Sports after demolishing the Red Devils at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho said:
“Manchester United don’t lose many matches, to lose by six is of course not every day.“Historical victory but in the end three points and three very important points.
We prepared ourselves very well tactically and also psychologically, the team was ready.“So ready that a penalty in the first minute and going down did not affect the team. 11 vs 11 we were playing well, creating huge problems, we were winning and they could not find solutions to control us.”
