Manchester United somehow came away from the Amex with three points on Saturday afternoon, despite being the inferior team throughout and the referee blowing the final whistle with the scores level at 2-2.
Solly March had just scored a late, late equaliser after a sustained period of pressure from Brighton, seemingly securing a point for the home side.
Just a minute later and March was heading the ball off his own line to protect that point, and looked like the hero of the day. The referee then blew the final whistle. A point a piece, or so we thought.
It was then highlighted to the referee that before March’s goal-line clearance, the ball had struck Neil Maupay’s hand on its way towards the goal.
The referee then reversed his full time whistle, awarded the penalty, and Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the spot.
