The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to reverse the hikes in the fuel pump price and electricity tariff or face civil unrest nationwide.
The union noted that this was the outcome of the Central Working Committee meeting which held for several hours in Abuja.
The NLC in a communiqué read by its president, Ayuba Wabba said the 2-weeks ultimatum takes effect immediately.
In an interview, Wabba said the national executive committee members and the state chapters as well as affiliates would meet on September 28 to decide on the strike action if the government failed to revert to the old prices by then.
“Today’s (Wednesday) decision on the ultimatum was taken by the Central Working Committee of the NLC,” he said.
“So, we have summoned the NEC to meet on Tuesday, September 22, for the action that is being proposed for 28th of this month. So, invariably, this is part of the decision of the Central Working Committee consisting of all Presidents and Secretary Generals of our affiliate unions.”
