Tottenham Hotspur are in the process of signing Sergio Reguilon, having agreed to Real Madrid’s demands for the transfer.
Manchester United had been the club most linked with the left-back over the past week or so, but on Tuesday afternoon it was reported Spurs had pushed themselves ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Unwilling to agree to a buyback clause, it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were prepared to see the deal fail on that point. Marca report Tottenham will pay €30m for the player, and Madrid can sign him back, over a period of two years, for €35-40m.
Marca state the move to Spurs is now fully agreed, and it’s just a case of Reguilon having a medical to complete the transfer. The Spanish newspaper state the ‘agreement is total’, and as long as there’s no last minute issues, Tottenham can announce the signing on Thursday.
Real Madrid are very happy with the deal, given Marcelo’s contract ends in June 2022. The buyback clause gives them the opportunity to take Reguilon back for not much more, relatively, than they’ll receive.
It also helps their immediate cashflow, as clubs struggle during the Covid-19 crisis.
