President Muhammadu Buhari today sent his condolences to families of the victims of a boat mishap in Kirfi Local Council of Bauchi State, describing the incident “as a devastating tragedy not only for families of victims, but for the country.’’
President Buhari in his message said: “I am profoundly touched by the death of these fellow Nigerians who had no idea they were embarking on their last journey.
“As the families of the unfortunate victims mourn, I extend my sympathies to them at this very difficult and trying moment, and pray that Allah comfort and give them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
The President also commiserated with the Government and People of Bauchi State, urging steadfastness in prayer for the souls of the departed, and their families.
No fewer than 38 people were reported to have gone on the boat, 4 of theme died 15 were rescued, others had gone missing when the boat accident happened in Kuna village in the Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi state.
The incident was said to have occurred on Monday when the deceased transported themselves to their farms in a canoe which capsized in Kirfi river.
The Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government, Alh. Bappa Abdu Bara, who disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi on Tuesday confirmed that only two people survived.
