2023 Presidency: Governor Umahi’s Excuse For Defection To APC Not Tenable, Fayose

As reactions continue to trail the defection of governor of Ebonyio state Dave Umahi, the former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has also beared his mind on the matter.

according to Mr. Fayose, Umahi’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is unprincipled. The Nation reports that he said he would never jump ship like some politicians who were bereft of political ideology, describing those indulging in such act as “political robbers.

Fayose said Governor Umahi had defected to APC long ago before his “unjustifiable” move, adding that the defection clearly has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation.

He said:

“Our politics is sick. Everything in Nigeria is currently sick and is a function of the leadership that we have. Governor Umahi’s joining APC after benefiting from several positions in PDP was unprincipled. We do not accept the excuses given by the governor.

“This is a reflection of the type of leadership our country parades.Though his action dampens hope for liberation, but I’m sure Nigerians will laugh last because sometimes, it will appear to have gotten so bad before it will begin to get better.”

Speaking on his frosty relationship with the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde and Senator representing Ekiti South, Biodun Olujimi, Fayose explained that there was no leadership tussle among them maintaining that whatever happened among them were not personal and would be resolved in the interest of the PDP.

Fayose made the remarks in Ado Ekiti while speaking with journalists as part of the events commemorating his 60th birthday.

He assured that all the raging crisis between him and other leaders of the party in Ekiti and the region would be resolved in the interest of the PDP.

“I was the one who went to flag off Governor Makinde campaign in Ogbomoso. Whether he is backing Senator Olujimi or not, the fact remains that the struggle for the control of the party’s structures in Ekiti has come and gone, so why do we have to fight over spilled milk?
