Ajax have been hit by an outbreak of COVID-19 ahead of their Champions League clash with FC Midtjylland on Tuesday.
The Eredivisie giants have confirmed they are traveling to Denmark with just 17 players.
A club statement said: “Ajax travels with seventeen players to Denmark for the duel with FC Midtjylland. Kjell Scherpen and Brian Brobbey, among others, will be present.”
Dutch reports claim 11 Ajax players have tested positive for coronavirus.
Ajax stars Davy Klaassen, Dusan Tadic, Andre Onana and Maarten Stekelenburg are notable absentees from the squad.
With goalkeepers Onana and Stekelenburg sidelined, third-choice stopper Kjell Scherpe is set to fill in-between the sticks.
Secondary coronavirus tests were being carried out for those affected on Monday in an attempt of negative results, which would allow more players to make the match with permission from UEFA.
Europe’s football governing body states a team must play if 13 or more first-team players are available.
Ajax, who are in Liverpool’s Champions League group, have managed just one point from two games, while Midtjylland have lost both of their matches.
